After 11 months of activity in the ZeroKyst project, it was time to gather all 12 project partners for a round of internal meetings and status updates, as well as an open seminar for interested partners. The event took place in Tromsø on 16-17 November, and proved useful in many ways. We got two busy days of knowledge-sharing and discussions, together with a creative workshop led by Innovation Norway.
The open seminar, on Thursday, was attended by several relevant actors, including Tromsø municipality, Karlsøy municipality, Tromsø harbour, Tromskraft, UiT, Norges råfisklag and the Norwegian Seafood Council. Presenters shared interesting information about the requirements and potential related to the electrification of harbours, and what challenges need to be solved.
There are several problems and challenges that need to be addressed by the ZeroKyst project and through other channels. An example of this is incomplete or unclear regulation about the implementation of new technology. Another is the lack of incentives and financial support in the risk phase of pilot projects for fishing vessels with low emissions or zero emissions.
Participants also got a status update about the field of hydrogen – with Norled outlining its project for the Hydra ferry. The mayor of Karlsøy explained how a small coastal municipality can take active measures and plan broadly and strategically for several energy transition measures.
